The committee and volunteers have stepped up with some new and exciting classes for us. Here are a few:
Keeping a Sketchbook
Have you always wanted to keep a sketchbook – for travel sketches, urban sketching, a nature journal, a visual diary of daily life? Avid sketchbook artist Kathleen Newman will lead 5 two hour workshops starting (fortnightly) in February 2018. She will share her sketchbooks, sketching tips and tools and materials for speedy on-location sketching. Each session will be different and includes sketching around Fiddlers Green and the High Street in Berwick. Skill level needed – just a willingness to have a go and have some fun.
Participants provide their own materials. Basically all you will need is a pencil and waterproof marker, paper or sketchbook , a board of some kind to rest your paper on, (watercolours/color pencils optional). Full list provided upon registration.

Creative Writing Workshop
Are you considering writing your memoirs for your family? Is writing the great Australian novel on your bucket list? How about short stories? Let’s get started! This workshop will focus on many aspects of writing creatively including the craft and tricks of creative writing, introduction to publishing and self-publishing, sharing with an audience through critiquing for improvement, and many writing resources and groups to help you develop writing skills. Beginners welcome, as well as people with writing experience. This will be about sharing. Jan Whitaker has self-published two novels and written for many different types of publications throughout her career. She will lead the 10 sessions on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month starting in February. Space is limited to 10 participants.
We are going to visit a different art gallery once a month. We’ll travel to local galleries by a City of Casey bus, but go by train to the National Gallery in Melbourne. We’ll travel to the gallery, view the exhibits, then have a bite of lunch in a nearby cafe, discuss what we’ve seen, then travel back to Berwick. Numbers will be limited to 12 or 18 depending on the bus we use. Start 16 Feb. 1000 at Fiddlers Green. 3rd Friday each month.
Please be aware there may be some costs for special exhibits and/or a guide.
This will be a discussion / lecture around pending issues in computers and computer technology with demonstrations of solutions and/or plans of attack. Possible topics include: computer attacks (malware, ransom ware or viruses), security dangers and how to avoid, what and when to backup and why and other issues as they arise. Start 8th Feb. 10.00 – 11.30am. (Meeting Room 1). Selandra Rise Community Hub. Fortnightly.
Do you love a challenge? Do you like discovering interesting places around the world?
